Thousands of Cisco Catalyst Switches are used within my organisation as PE switches which are further stacked onto multiple Cisco access switches.
Pros
- They keep on going forever, some of our switches has 12 years of uptime
- Measurement of traffic flows is great via snmp integration
- Very friendly CLI to config/modify any interface vi ssh or console
Cons
- Some more fiber ports which would reduce sfp usage
- Very Reliable
- Great support from account manager in case a tac case needs to be raised
- Alerts via NMS helps detect down switches to further investigate and fix
- Unlike other vendors, Cisco Catalyst Switches doesn’t require redundant links to be shut for certain file servers to be accessible
