Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
Right now we're using mostly Catalyst 8,000 V switches. That's virtual model. And this one we are using it as not devices.
Pros
- So in this specific use case, as I said, it's not in a service provider environment, so we use it well because it's scale greatly. I mean we have of course a lot of customers with a lot of device connected and so basically we have a lot of not translation to do.
Cons
- Licensing is not easy, but that's not a new subject for Cisco. I had to reach the tax support to validate some license. It's better now, but it lacks again some. Yeah, it's not easy to get license with that, even if we have everything with the smart licensing, it's always a little bit complicated. That's all.
- It's mandatory, I mean it everywhere. So yes, we use it everywhere, so yes, there is a lot of impact with that.

Collaboration, even if we have all the tools to do that in our, so the way that we work, we do a lot of workshop, that means that we have to work multiple people together on the same thing. And in the end with the current tool, it's always one people sharing, doing all the work and the other people try to participate, but it's not effective in the end. We know that there is some whiteboards, application, this kind of stuff that could overcome this issue, but when it comes to develop on some softwares, when it comes to design, when it comes to code, it's not efficient. So it's still something that needs some implement to really work together. That's the main challenge.
Again, still with collaboration, it's the challenges by themself. Honestly, we are, when we work, when we are three or four to work on the same subject, it's hard to keep everybody as focused as it'll be on site because as I just explained in the end, there is just one people typing or drawing or doing anything else. The other people try to collaborate, but it's not always to follow. In this case.
I use some Aruba switches as well and some Huawei products as well. That's the reference, honestly, that's really all the products that are quite good are mostly copying what Cisco does. And when it does not copy, it's not as good. The only other competitor that does the same kind of project, but differently in a good way is Juniper. For me it works quite as well, but that's the only vendor that I would say is really different from Cisco and in a good way. I mean both are good but not the same way.
