Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches

We have several data centers in extended L2.
These data centers relied on an aging and no longer supported concurrent infrastructure.
The previous infrastructure had weaknesses, particularly due to the spanning tree, which was extended by data center.
We were looking for newer replacement equipment that would solve the spanning tree problem.Cisco's NEXUS 9000 series enabled us to do just that.

Pros

  • VXLAN BGP EVPN
  • Anycast Gateway
  • 40/100G Uplink
  • API Support
  • Fabric support

Cons

  • PoE feature for P-models
  • VRF pending deletion
  • VRF profile mode limitations
  • Less Spanning tree
  • Better resilience
  • More flexibility for updates
  • VPC support
We are able to support a large number of workloads with throughputs of up to 25Gbps per workload.VPC support allows us to lose a switch without impact, even during updates.Spine/leaf architecture allows for high equipment capacity in the data center without compromising network reliability. The wide variety of configuration methods makes it easy to implement any kind of environment.
NEXUS devices support the latest security technologies such as Macsec, which encrypts all network traffic on a link.Support for group-based policies makes it easy to manage the preparation and access control of machines on the network. The switches still support traditional accesslists, VLAN/VXLAN and VRF network segmentation features.
It's a good product, perhaps a little expensive but with a long service life.
Overall, the NEXUS 9000 series does not have many technical limitations.
The update process has always gone smoothly so far, but it is important to follow the upgrade path provided by Cisco, as there is one.

Beyond purely political considerations regarding the use of Chinese products in our company, Cisco NEXUS switches support VPC, which was not the case with our Huawei Cloud Engines, which only supported the stack. This was a real problem during updates because we had to update the entire stack at once, which paralysed an entire rack.

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches again?

Yes

The NEXUS 9000 series is well suited to data center issues. It is ideal for extended L2 without spanning tree issues, as the VTEP is as close as possible to the equipment. Cisco provides various types of controllers for configuring these switches as fabric switches in simple and complex environments.
This equipment is really designed for data centers. For a campus, it is better to turn to the Catalyst product lines.
