Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Nexus Series Switches

Use them in data center, as CLOS fabric (BGP EVPN VXLAN) and as a core switches in the out-of-band management network in data centers and enterprises.
  • Routing - all essentials routing stack
  • Overlay networking (VXLAN over L3 network)
  • Wide range of port and breakout combinations
  • Some customers want to see more VPN connectivity options on nexus switches (like OpenVPN, WireGuard etc.)
  • More than 1 guestshell
  • Data center - CLOS fabric, crucial part of our's infrustructure
  • Real time telemetry
  • Reliability of the fabric
  • Lot of connectivity options
More clear telemetry, and nice connectivity options.

Extremely well - all CLOS fabric use cases, all data center scenarios.
Very well - as a enterprise core/distribution switches, more flexible that Catalyst series.

And of course they lack some enterprise access features, like PoE, which is make them less appropriate to use as enterprise access layer equipment.

  • Bash shell are VERY useful - we often use it as a jump host to some remote infrastructure and the ability to run standard Linux programs.
  • We plan to use guest shell to host some of our network monitoring tools in some remote locations.
Very capable platform. A lot of documentation and various use cases.
