Overall Satisfaction with Cisco UCS Series

Cisco UCS is the backbone of compute architecture at our organization, it is a single platform that is used extensively for all things Compute, It the standard that is used to deploy any workload or project that requires CPU, memory, hard-drive and high speed processing. We deploy Cisco UCS in both chassis with b-series blades as well as stand-alone c-series servers. These provide converged infrastructure due to unique architecture.

Pros

  • Some of the highest rated blades and rack servers per the industry benchmark tests
  • Using Virtual Interface Cards (VIC), one can easily spawn up to 128 virtual NIC and HBA to carve our network and storage configurations, this simplifies extensive need for physical adapters.
  • Compute, network and storage in to same hardware platform - ease of operations and maintainability.
  • Concept of Service Profile and Templates - build once, use multiple times

Cons

  • Demand for power and AI work load requires higher capacity blades
  • Availability of 100Gb and 400Gb uplink ports for higher bandwidth workloads
  • inclusion of telemetry functions to pro-actively generate alerts and faults before they affect functionality.
  • We started small not knowing full capabilities of Cisco UCS, it has worked well, and has now grown into majority of organization compute and storage workloads.
  • Using Service Profile and Templates, its very easy to build and deploy new servers or to re-deploy after a failure.
  • Platform allows hyper-converged infrastructure that has become the foundation of many of our solutions.
  • Cisco UCS is number #1 in USA and almost on top worldwide. This speaks volumes on ROI and acceptance by customers.
Flexibility, efficiency, foot print and converged solution are some of the differentiators for preferring Cisco UCS Solution.

Ease of use, ease of building solution, service profile, pools and policy - built once, deploy multiple times are clearly winners.

No more need to assign servers built-in parameters but to ease the solution by extracting these hardware parameters e.g. UUID, SN, vhba, enic etc.
Having Fabric Interconnect that ties blades and rack servers makes managing compute very easy using UCS Manager. Each blades configurations and management functionality if easily available via UCS Manager and Intersight.

Cisco UCS blades and rack servers can also be easily managed using UCS Central - manager of multiple UCS domains.

We have used Cisco SaaS Solution - Intersight to build service profiles, pools and policies and have managed resources much more easily.
Absolutely satisfied with ease of configuring servers and network functions. The platform was designed grounds-up and can be remotely managed without being physically present near hardware.

As hardware fails, new blades can easily be deployed within minutes using the same service profile that was used on failed blade as previous configured settings. Within minutes the new server is up and running with same settings.

Do you think Cisco UCS Series delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco UCS Series's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco UCS Series live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco UCS Series go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco UCS Series again?

Yes

Cisco UCS is well suited for workloads small or large. Some of the high end blades and rack servers have plenty of punch and power to be deployed for high demand workloads including HPC (high performance computing).

Rack servers are well suited for deploying data base work loads. While chassis solution is well suited for quickly adding and replacing blades within chassis, and for configuring various service profiles based of type of work load and requirements.
