Overall Satisfaction with Cohesity

We use Cohesity for our Test virtual servers and a handful of production servers today. In the near future, we will be rolling out our replication cluster and will be moving many production servers to it. It's really the easy button for virtual backups. For us, it gave us a simple UI, encryption at rest and in flight as well as easy backup/restore and easy replication.
  • The user interface is extremely simple and easy to use.
  • Backup and restores are intuitive and just work.
  • Easy -Replication.
  • Easy - Cloud replication.
  • Easy - Encryption in flight and at rest.
  • File-based restores (directly back to the server) require that UAC is turned off.
  • Needs more customized reporting capability.
  • I would love to be able to create reports that are emailed regularly.
  • The Cost per effective TB is low due to the high rate of data reduction we see with the Cohesity platform.
  • There is a tremendous space saving with Cohesity (when compared to other products) which allows us to more efficient with rack space.
  • It takes much less time to manage this product.
We looked at Veeam and although it's a great product when we priced out the licensing of both primary and disaster datacenters it became much too expensive.

Rubrik is a great product and very similar to Cohesity. In the end, Cohesity had a secondary storage play as well as a better UI and better compatibility with lower tier cloud storage. We also like the way Cohesity did protection jobs vs Rubrik's virtual machine centric backup.

CommVault is a product we still use today due to its massive features and the ability for bare metal backups. Cohesity does a much better job in the area of UI simplicity, virtual backup ease, and ease of management.
It is well suited for highly virtualized environments that backup over the network. When many people play a hand in backup and recovery it works well due to the simplicity of the interface. It will not work well for environments who are utilizing SAN based backup as Cohesity does not support Fiber Channel backup.
