Overall Satisfaction with Commvault

We are an MSP and use Commvault as our backup services solution. Also, our internal IT department is a tenant on this platform. Commvault helps us and our customers face the data protection challenges of legacy applications and SaaS offerings. With Commvault, we are able to backup all of it with a single tool and pane of glass.

Pros

  • Office365 data in mailboxes, SharePoint, and Onedrive.
  • Oracle databases on physical Unix server systems.
  • Snapshot integration with Net-app Storage systems.
  • Easy secondary storage to S3 based services.

Cons

  • Not all licenses are available in a multi-tenant SPM platform yet.
  • Commvault specialists are hard to find.
  • Consolidation of multiple backup solutions saved a lot of money and complexity.
  • Adding features like DR and archiving is easy in the SPM model.
As there is a lack of development and focus on Networker, we were forced to adopt a new and modern solution. Commvault was chosen as it keeps up with market developments and is recognized as a strong leader by Gartner and IDC. Other products like Veaam look nice but lack a lot of features Commvault offers.
As data management processes are depending on all infrastructures, services and applications, the likelihood of something going wrong in a job is high. It is important to have specialists assisting us in pinpointing the solutions to solve any issues wherever they have occurred. Most of the times the issues are not related to Commvault configurations.

Commvault is an enterprise data management solution. It might not be a perfect fit for SMB markets. In mid-sized and enterprise markets, Commvault is the best fit, as it covers all data-related challenges. In hybrid cloud infrastructures, things get a lot more complex to manage, therefore protection of all your data, wherever it is located, needs to be well protected.
