Overall Satisfaction with Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery

Commvault is our primary data protection tool and is used across the entire environment. Commvault provided us with an easier way to manage and monitor backup and restore processes from multiple environments and platforms all within a single product with a common interface and experience. The virtualization portion of the product has minimized the amount of work required for setting up and managing backups across our data center.

Pros

  • Virtualization protection.

Cons

  • DB2 Backup.
  • Minimized work needed to configure backups for new clients.
  • De-duplication drastically reduced the amount of backup storage needed.
IBM TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager), now Spectrum Protect, was for more complex to manage than the Commvault environment. With "Protect" each client feels like it required management rather than managing at a higher level with standardized policies. Troubleshooting and Monitoring our TSM environment was very time/labor-intensive and with Commvault it is far simpler.
Support from Commvault is some of the best support I have experienced from any technology company. Their engineers are well spoken and truly understand their subject matters. If there is an issue with support it is handled in a timely and thorough manner every time. Though rare, I did leave a less than perfect review after one interaction with support and within an hour I had a manager calling me to discuss and remedy the situation. While you would hope there are never issues, I think it is important to understand what the company is going to do when there is an issue and for that Commvault gets a top score from me.
