Overall Satisfaction with Conga Composer

We use Conga to generate documents related to selling vehicles. When we sell a truck or trailer, we need a tool to generate documents for either processing the deal with the state or generating documents as part of the sales process (Spec sheets, for example). Document generation is a big part of our business.

Pros

  • It can generate a document.
  • Pull in images.
  • Some logic can be added if you have the time to figure it out yourself.

Cons

  • PAINFUL to use in Salesforce.
  • Custom work required to make improvements.
  • Any updates or templates require too many steps.
  • Obvious that this was not designed with Salesforce in mind.
  • Time out issues.
  • Not very dynamic.
  • Need to know code to create quality solutions.
The document maintenance process kills this review for me. I have multiple documents that are failing to generate anything, and I'm to the point where I know I'm changing tools. So, I have told my users to please be patient while we are in limbo. The effort required to make the documents work isn't worth it.
Our document workflow has been really clunky and painful. If this tool was halfway decent, creating the templates would be simple. PLUS, the document creation tool requires way too many clicks. This isn't dynamic at all. We also have timeout issues. I've inquired about the timeouts, and the solution was to pay more...
S-Docs allows for much more dynamic flexibility. Additionally, S-Docs template maintenance is substantially easier than Conga Composer. Conga requires about 6 steps to make an update to your template. S-Docs has a simple template builder that makes the process substantially easier. Overall S-Docs is much more robust and allows for a better user experience.

Document generation shouldn't be tricky for the user and admin/ person to maintain the documents. It's crazy how many steps are needed to make an update. Customer support was basically non-existent. I would not recommend this tool compared to other tools I have seen. The fact that I have to have a separate upload, which then pushes queries into the document, assuming everything is perfectly configured, of course, is not a pleasant experience.
