Overall Satisfaction with Datadog

We use Datadog to do LLM metrics and observability. As the company shifts to LLM-based operations, it is hard to know if the application is misshaping because of LLMs or other systems in a large distributed system. DataDog helps with understanding where things stand.

Pros

  • The traces in Datadog is really good to view.
  • Ease of creation of dashboards that allows us to get a high-level view.

Cons

  • The dashboard doesn't seem to be customizable enough to allow us to do complicated charting.
  • Data seems to be sampled.
  • There is no AI assistance to help make the dashboard.
  • Need AI assistance to help reduce the cost of spending.
  • Low return on investment. For my use cases, I spent around $500 for the LLMs but had to spent $3000 for Datadog.
There are too many things on Datadog; it is confusing where to find what. It shouldn't be this complex to find where my system went wrong.
Wavefront seems to be better at observability and allows more custom query language.

Do you think Datadog delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Datadog's feature set?

No

Did Datadog live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Datadog go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Datadog again?

No

I use it for the dashboard and capturing cost metrics. Datadog is trying to do a lot, but not very good at improving operational efficiency because it lacks the ability to translate those metrics into actionable steps or automated remediation.
