Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

I use DraftSight for architectural drafting/design as well as for estimating and project management. We are a small company, so I am the only user of the software. I use DraftSight for a lot of things. I do take-offs for lineal and sq ft. for material but use it as a working platform for value engineering designs and working with designers/architects. I've used it for so many graphic uses, design layouts for signage, CNC milling of accent pieces even layout tile patterns to maximize cuts. It's also my go-to for any CAD drafting for plans.
  • Drafting
  • Project management
  • Material take-offs
  • Trouble getting things to print to scale
  • Issues importing graphics
  • Unable to be move objects by grabbing.
  • Cost is good for the use of the program
  • Negative would be that there are some functions that are not the same as AutoCAD
  • Has made things very efficient
It has been a couple of years since I have used AutoCAD so I have not used them in a direct relationship. There are some features that are missing on DraftSight that are on AutoCAD that I wish they had. Printing and moving pieces are difficult.
DraftSight is well suited for drafting and CAD work. Not so much for 3D design. It works very well for revising plans from other designers and is good to pass design ideas back and forth.
