Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
I personally use DraftSight within my organization to design mechanical components, equipment layout for plants, and fixtures for our labs. It is allowing me to design new components for our new dispensing systems and to design CAD drawings for our machine shop to build by. It also allows me to review installation drawings by our integrators to ensure the design is appropriate for our materials that will be utilized in the automotive sector.
- Very simple to use, and the help menus provide instant support as you are learning
- Allows you to do a lot of the 2D design that you would with AutoCAD, but at a much lower cost
- Allows you to develop designs in 3D
- Would like to see the ability to open other files like IGES or STP files
- The ability to use more of the screen for the drawing area
- The ability to set up hotkeys on my keyboard for drawing functions
- It has allowed my department to become self sufficient and has allowed us to save money by not having to contract out our CAD work
- We get results much faster than going though an outside contractor, due to less time needed to discuss what we want and then having to review after they have completed the task
- Able to review layouts provided by our customer on the same day
