Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

DraftSight is being used by the whole engineering department. We primarily use it to create wiring diagrams for lighting fixtures. This is a standard document required in assembling each fixture.

Pros

  • Creation of .dwg file
  • 2D modeling
  • Wiring schematics

Cons

  • Increase speed in saving files
  • Increase speed in opening and closing files
  • Being able to incorporate this program for the majority of people at the office
  • It also works on the SOLIDWORKS PDM, so the ones who don't have DraftSight can also view the files through e-viewer
It's easier to use and a lightweight program.
DraftSight is best suited for creating illustrations on a 2-dimensional board. It is a great alternative to AutoCAD. It's good for converting files to different formats as well. It helps with creating wiring diagrams, assembly, and installation instructions. It is less appropriate for 3D illustrations, but does a great job for 2D illustrations.
