It would be a good program if issues could be resolved.
Overall Satisfaction with Epicor Prophet 21
Our whole organization uses P21. We are a distribution company. We were looking for a faster way of getting work done. A more efficient way of getting more work done without the need to hire more people.
Pros
- The system allows us to pretty much design it to work the way want it to work. It is a very flexible system for the most part.
- The system doesn't let you make too many shortcuts with getting something processed. It forces you to go through the proper steps.
- The system keeps track of everything and can be easily retrieved through history searches. Detailed reports, graphs, ....
Cons
- CRASHING, the system crashes too frequently for me. 3-5 times a day, support can't figure out why it happens. Extremely annoying when in the middle of a transaction.
- Overall support from P21 technicians is poor. If they or you can't replicate a problem, they can't help. Even if the problem is frequent.
- Cycle counts are a concern. Not much of a real cycle count report to check inventory daily, we had to create our own.
- Crystal Reports and how they can link with documents are challenging. Especially for packing lists and commercial invoices. As well as certs that are created for some items.
It is beneficial, there are a lot more things I can do now as opposed to what I was able to do in our previous ERP system. There are more areas to work from instead of a limited few that are for certain departments. I can get the majority of my work done and issue resolved without relying on others for help or needing someone in another department to perform a task before I continue.
Yes - We replaced a Takestock program because we had maxed out all the modifications that we could do the program. We kept needing more features as we grew as a company and as our customers demanded more data or results from us.
Change management was minimal - The lesson I learned is to learn as much of the system as I can. Even if it isn't my department to learn. The more knowledge I obtained from trying things the better I can see how my actions intertwine with other departments. I don't have to rely on others as well because I learned how things work in other areas. Some processes have changed due to automation.
I have yet to use the storefront.
- We are able to handle the workload with a low overhead.
- System crashing doesn't really make things better for us. Can't work or get things done quickly or in a rush when the system crashes. Too much time logging in and out and setting up windows with each crash. ( Time wasted )
Not sure, we tested another program, but they as well as P21 was just a basic out of the box limited version. You really can't judge a system unless you use it in the real world. They look great on paper, but when you need it to do something and it can't, it becomes an issue.
