Overall Satisfaction with ForeFlight
I am a Certified Flight Instructor who uses ForeFlight to access FAA resources, maintain my pilot logbook, reference charts during flights, and obtain preflight briefings that include weather reports and information on airport closures. Everyone who attends and instructs at the flight school where I work uses ForeFlight for these same purposes.
Pros
- Quick access to aviation charts that are automatically updated as the FAA updates them
- Provides resources for preflight briefings at pilots' fingertips
- Digital pilot logbook
- Access to official FAA documents with additional capacity to store other documents
- Access on mobile devices and computers
Cons
- It would be helpful to be able to import Cloud Ahoy data onto ForeFlight to see specific instrument data during specific phases of flight.
- When typing waypoints into the Flight Plan section, it would be helpful if pressing backspace simply erases the last character, rather than every character in the waypoint typed thus far.
- It would be helpful to be able to place flight breadcrumbs on the map, even after the breadcrumbs time has expired, for review in the future.
- It would be helpful to include a sum total of ground instruction time in the Experience Report section of the logbook.
- The operational costs of ForeFlight are likely to be minimal, especially when compared to the efficiency gains (e.g., flight preparation, etc.) and potential boosts to safety (e.g., weight and balance calculations, information that can be used for aeronautical decision-making scenarios, etc.).
