Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Google Sheets for period closing checklist, schedule building/updating, invoice analysis, P&L review/anaysis and across the company. The good thing about Google Sheets is the history audit trail so you can see who changes what and when. You can also protect certain columns, cells to prevent formulas from being changed, while sharing with multiple people you can select different permissions per person.

Usability

Overall the formula functions could improve but there's workarounds for them. Utilzing different formulas or approaches for building out accounting schedules. While collebrating with multiple team members and different departments being able to go in and see where others are on the sheets is helpful. Google Sheets overall is a great product

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft Excel and Smartsheet

Google Sheets is better than smartsheets and excel when it comes to integrating into different applications for automation as well as for team collaboration. While excel is better for analysis and higher level formulas/Marcos when working in a team environment or involving people at different locations, Google Sheets is the way to go. The real time updates, having the ability for multiple people to be in the same sheet at the same time is important

for period closing checklist my team can go in and update the Google Sheets noting what items have been completed and what items are still pending. Everyone can go in and see the updates in real time to see where we stand with closing. Managing mutiple team members and collebrating is a lot easier with Google Sheets compared to excel
