Excellent Writing Software
Overall Satisfaction with Grammarly
I use Grammarly on a weekly basis to create content for websites, social media, advertising and other business-related content. The various settings help adjust my goals for the type of content I'm creating and the tools and plagiarism checker helps ensure what I write is perfect for potential customers. The tools built into Grammarly make it so I don't have to worry about my grammar or spelling and can easily free flow ideas and come back later to easily fix any issues.
Pros
- Ease of use - Grammarly is super easy to use. Anyone can use the app whether in a text editor like Microsoft Word or on the Grammarly website.
- Integration - This one is a game-changer. It integrates with the main programs I use on a regular basis including email, Microsoft Office, Firefox, desktop, phone and iPads. I didn't need to change to anything or use something different so it was an ideal match.
- Goals - This is a really cool function of Grammarly. With Goals, you can choose your audience, formality and domain type. So it works for a wide range of users. Depending on the audience type, Grammarly automatically can suggest changes to your content to help ensure your goals are being met.
Cons
- Memory - I have a lot of programs I need open on my computer and multiple tabs in my web browser. I need them all to do my work. I have noticed a slow-down of apps opening or it taking longer to open a browser window when Grammarly is activated.
- Business Plan - I would love to use their new style guide feature, however, it would more than triple my monthly cost because they offer it at 3 users per month. I am self-employed and with the multitude of programs I already pay for on a regular basis, it doesn't quite fit in my budget to upgrade. I'd love to see a solopreneur plan.
- More Integration - It does integrate in a lot of ways already but instead of having to copy and paste from Grammarly into the apps it doesn't integrate with, it would be nice for it to integrate with other apps that could be beneficial, i.e. Canva, Hootsuite, etc.
- Saves time
- Increases the clarity and depth of my writing
- Offers suggestions to make it better
I believe that both Grammarly and ProWritingAid are excellent tools that complement each other well. It would be fantastic to see an integration that combines the strengths of both. ProWritingAid provides comprehensive reports that are incredibly helpful. These reports highlight issues such as overused words, pacing, sentence structure, and more. For writers, it offers features like a story analyzer and chapter critique, which are great for identifying weaknesses in book writing. Grammarly has a fantastic generative AI that assists with brainstorming ideas, crafting outlines, and checking for plagiarism.
