Overall Satisfaction with Grammarly

We have Grammarly on top of all written communication from documents, emails, even interoffice chat channels. I cannot remember how many years we've been using Grammarly, but I feel like it's been 5+ years since we first discovered it. Initially, it was more spelling/grammar corrections, but now it is helpful with tone and ensuring the tone is what we intend.

Pros

  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Tone
  • Clarifying sentence structure

Cons

  • Industry terms need to be added constantly
  • It seems to want a more formal tone when a casual tone will sufice
  • Occasionally signs us out unexpectedly
  • Correct spelling is important to our brand
  • Correct grammar is important to our brand
  • Correct tone is important to our brand
  • Regular stats from Grammarly on spelling, grammar corrections
  • Regular stats from Grammarly on the tone of our written words
We've been long-time users, and I cannot remember when using it was a challenge. There is a desktop app that we rarely use since it is already overlaid on top of all of our written words, including this review I'm writing presently. I tend to be a bit verbose, and Grammarly usually shows me ways to communicate the same message in fewer words.
Apple AI has a Grammarly-like product, we tried using it, but it's not overlaid on top, and you need to select the text and then wait for the recommendation. It's possible Apple AI may improve but I cannot imagine it ever directly competing with Grammarly.

Yes

Did implementation of Grammarly go as expected?

Would you buy Grammarly again?

Yes

So AI seems to have been the 'thing' in the last few years. Grammarly has been our AI friend for many years before most people even knew of AI with the exception of a scifi movie. Regardless if you're proficient in writing, it's great to have an editor of sort constantly reviewing your written words. It would be really nice if there was a version that could listen to what you're saying and then provide verbal recommendations.

Using Grammarly

2 - Both for content creation, emails, and interoffice communications. The company has been a Grammarly subscriber since 2017. One staff member is a writer and uses Grammarly for the publications he writes for as an in-house editor. Grammarly is integrated with all of our software, so we're constantly being notified of any spelling, grammar, or clarification recommendations, which makes it nice. There is nothing worse than poor grammar in an email.
2 - It doesn't require any internal support other than occasional software updates. However, I've noticed that sometimes, when there is an OS update and we're all on a Mac platform, we will need to re-enable any extensions and sign back in to Grammarly. But that's about it. We receive monthly summary reports on how Grammarly has tracked our tone, spelling, and word usage, which is somewhat of a gamification of the app and fun.
  • We send a ton of emails daily and it helps with grammar, tone, and spelling
  • Sometimes we use the same phraseology too often and Grammarly suggests an alternative.
  • I'm terrible at proper use of commas as I type fast and Grammarly highlights needed pauses in my sentences for pace and clarity.
  • Sometimes thoughts don't flow when written, and Grammarly helps fix that.
  • The first time I received a word count of over 100k I didn't realize how much I write daily
  • I like how it compares my writing skills with others so I'm always looking to improve my word usage to boost my score while still keeping a casual tone and clarity.
  • I know Grammarly continues to improve AI functionality which is nice
  • I've never tried using it for our existing website content but would be great to have it review that
  • Not sure as I've never used speech to text on Grammarly so not sure if that is an option
Either I'm as dumb as a bag of nails, or Grammarly has been an invaluable tool in our communication arsenal since we've been users since 2017. I don't recall which podcast we heard it on, but it may have been when Jordan Harbinger was on Art of Charm. I listen to about 8 podcasts a day, so it was probably on something I listened to, demo'd it, and then ponied up for a paid subscription.

Evaluating Grammarly and Competitors

Yes - We didn't when we initially signed up in 2017, but I think it was this year when Apple announced its Intelligence features. We tried using Apple's somewhat Grammarly functions but found them a bit wonky and didn't work nearly as effectively. Our thought was that if we could eliminate that subscription, it wouldn't be major savings, but still something. But alas, sorry, Apple. Grammarly is far superior.
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
The software we use is the suite of Zoho One modules, Brave, and Safari. It was important that it worked on all of those, and it does. It wouldn't be useful if it only worked in word documents and not across applications. We also have it installed on all mobile devices and tablets to ensure consistency in the manner in which we communicate with clients and vendors.
I don't think we'd do anything differently. Typically, I'm always looking to see what other options are available if I think any software we are using is not doing all that we want and need it to do. That's never been an issue with Grammarly as there is even a desktop app that works well.

Grammarly Implementation

Perhaps if you have a team that is not overly computer savvy, which in that case, I'd challenge your hiring decision, there's not much involved. I'm sure there are YouTube videos that go in-depth about implementation but it's really quite simple.
Change management was minimal
  • The only concern was privacy with granting keyboard access which we denied.

Grammarly Support

Fortunately for us, I've never had an occasion to contact Grammarly for support issues, so I cannot speak to how their support is. I provided a 10 rating as 0 would be undeserving and 5 didn't seem appropriate either.
Nope we didn't even know that was an option but since we've never had any issues, I don't think it is necessary for us but great to know it's available.
See my previous comments regarding never having any issues that required a support call.
