We use Gumlet for our online courses and a hybrid event format where we connect live as a group via Zoom and simultaneously watch video content together. Videos shared via Zoom often arrive pixelated and choppy, making content creation impossible – especially when everyone needs to watch the same video synchronously and audio quality is crucial.With Gumlet, we can provide videos in very high resolution (up to 4K), and the platform automatically adjusts the quality to the viewers' internet connection. This ensures stable and uninterrupted video and audio, and everyone finishes at the same time before the Zoom call continues. For us, this means a huge improvement in efficiency and, above all, greater reliability, because the user experience directly determines whether people book our events again.Gumlet is increasingly replacing the native video hosting of our LMS, as videos start much faster and play smoothly even with lower bandwidth.

Wir nutzen Gumlet für unsere Online-Kurse und ein hybrides Event-Format, bei dem wir in einer Gruppe live über Zoom verbunden sind und gleichzeitig gemeinsam Videoinhalte anschauen. Über Zoom geteilte Videos kommen nur stark verpixelt und ruckelig an, was die inhaltliche Arbeit unmöglich macht – besonders wenn alle synchron dasselbe Video sehen müssen und die Audioqualität entscheidend ist.
Mit Gumlet können wir Videos in sehr hoher Auflösung bereitstellen (bis 4K), und die Plattform passt die Qualität automatisch an die Internetverbindung der Zuschauer:innen an. Dadurch laufen Bild und Ton stabil und ohne Unterbrechungen, und alle sind zur gleichen Zeit fertig, bevor es im Zoom-Call weitergeht. Für uns bedeutet das eine enorme Erleichterung und vor allem Sicherheit im Ablauf, weil die User Experience direkt darüber entscheidet, ob Menschen unsere Events wieder buchen.
Gumlet ersetzt bei uns zunehmend das native Video-Hosting unseres LMS, da Videos viel schneller starten und auch bei schwächerer Bandbreite flüssig abspielbar sind.

Pros

Watching videos together in a group, synchronously, works perfectly – no stuttering, no pixelation, no audio dropouts, even if someone only has mediocre internet.
The automatic adjustment of video quality to each individual's internet speed ensures that the best quality is always delivered without me having to worry about it.
Videos start instantly and without loading time, which is a huge difference compared to our previous LMS and makes the flow of live events appear relaxed and professional.
Das gemeinsame, synchrone Anschauen von Videos in einer Gruppe funktioniert absolut stabil – kein Ruckeln, kein Verpixeln, keine Ton-Aussetzer, sogar wenn jemand nur mittelmäßiges Internet hat.
Die automatische Anpassung der Videoqualität an die Internetgeschwindigkeit jeder einzelnen Person sorgt dafür, dass immer die beste Qualität geliefert wird, ohne dass ich mich darum kümmern muss.
Videos starten sofort und ohne Ladezeit, was im Vergleich zu unserem bisherigen LMS ein riesiger Unterschied ist und den Ablauf bei Live-Events entspannt und professionell wirken lässt.

Cons

For live streaming, I would like to see continuous, permanent streams that are not automatically stopped and archived when OBS is shut down – this would greatly simplify the workflow.
What I would like to see are more live streaming features. For example, a dedicated live stage and the ability to combine an OBS stream with live streaming using a VOD video from Gumlet. This would mean I wouldn't have to upload the video via OBS first, but could instead do my presentation in Zoom and then play the video in Gumlet.
Integration with pcloud would be great.
The ability to treat a video like a stream, i.e., to start and stop the video live via a kind of moderator console and to control a playlist so that everyone can see it at the same time without being able to fast-forward or pause, similar to Feedbeo or Mentimeter, where the moderator then unlocks the respective question for everyone.
Beim Live-Streaming wünsche ich mir dauerhafte, permanente Streams, die nicht automatisch beendet und archiviert werden, wenn OBS abgeschaltet wird – das würde den Workflow enorm vereinfachen.
Was ich mir wünsche würde, mehr Live Streaming Features. z.B. eine eigene Live Stage und die Möglichkeit einen OBS Stream mit Live Streaming zu kombinieren mit einem VOD Video von Gumlet. Damit müsste ich das Video nicht erst über OBS hochstreamen, sondern könnte in Zoom meine Moderation machen und dann in Gumlet das Video abspielen.
Anbindung an pcloud wäre super.
Die Möglichkeit ein Video wie einen Stream zu behandeln, d.h. üebr eine Art Moderator Konsole das Video live starten und stoppen und eine Playlist steuern, damit es alle gleichzeitig sehen können, ohne spulen und pausieren zu können, ähnlich wie bei Feedbeo oder Mentimeter, wo der Moderator dann die jeweilige Frage für alle Freischaltet.

Usability

Overall, the UI is very intuitive, except for the collection-based settings, which aren't immediately clear. It would be clearer if the collection were essentially the top-level element, like a project, and the respective collection-dependent settings were then configured within it. In other words, a clearer menu separation between global settings and project/collection settings would be beneficial.

Insgesamt ist das UI sehr intuitiv, außer die Collection basierte Settings, die sind nicht sofort verständlich. Es
wäre klarer wenn die Collection, quasi das oberste Element wie ein
Projekt ist und darin werden dann die jeweiligen Collection abhängigen
Einstellungen gemacht. Also eine klarere Menütrennung zwischen globalen
Settings und Projekt/Collection Settings.

Alternatives Considered

Before using Gumlet, I tested StreamOne Live. The platform was generally stable and easy to use, but it didn't offer 4K video-on-demand. For my formats with high-quality, detailed video content, that was a significant drawback. That's why I ultimately chose Gumlet, because there, picture quality truly matters.

For hybrid live event formats, where a group watches the same video simultaneously and the flow needs to be perfectly synchronized, Gumlet is, in my opinion, the best solution. Especially in combination with a live Zoom call, Gumlet made our work possible in the first place, because video and audio run smoothly and the quality is automatically adjusted to the viewers' internet connection. If an event depends on everyone finishing at the same time, Gumlet is invaluable.
Gumlet is also ideal for online courses and video libraries where high-quality, high-resolution videos need to start without loading time – we are increasingly using it instead of our LMS because the performance is simply much better.
Gumlet is currently less suitable if you need permanent live stream channels or want to prepare many live events simultaneously, as streams are currently automatically closed and archived when OBS ends. However, according to support, this feature is already in development.
For our use cases, I would recommend Gumlet without hesitation.

Für hybride Live-Event-Formate, bei denen eine Gruppe gleichzeitig dasselbe Video anschaut und der Ablauf absolut synchron sein muss, ist Gumlet aus meiner Sicht die beste Lösung. Besonders in Kombination mit einem Live-Zoom-Call hat Gumlet unsere Arbeit überhaupt erst möglich gemacht, weil Video und Audio stabil laufen und die Qualität automatisch an die Internetverbindung der Zuschauer:innen angepasst wird. Wenn ein Event davon lebt, dass alle gleichzeitig fertig sind, ist Gumlet Gold wert.

Auch für Online-Kurse und Videobibliotheken, bei denen hochwertige, hochauflösende Videos ohne Ladezeit starten müssen, ist Gumlet ideal – wir nutzen es inzwischen zunehmend anstelle unseres LMS, weil die Performance einfach deutlich besser ist.

Weniger geeignet ist Gumlet aktuell, wenn man dauerhafte Live-Stream-Kanäle benötigt oder viele Live-Events parallel vorbereiten möchte, da Streams derzeit automatisch geschlossen und archiviert werden, wenn OBS endet. Dieses Feature ist aber laut Support bereits in Entwicklung.

Für unsere Anwendungsfälle würde ich Gumlet jederzeit weiterempfehlen.
