Overall Satisfaction with Handshake for Educational Providers

Handshake helps provide a mission to opportunity. They do help students find jobs in an easy, accessible way. We use Handshake across campus to post job opportunities, job fairs, career experiences, internships, etc., for all students. If students are looking for a job in particular, we aim to help provide that resource through Handshake. Handshake solves problems with students looking for jobs by making access to what's available accessible for students to find.

Pros

  • Cross-campus use is easy and consistent.

Cons

  • Handshake might be hard to use for students who have never used the service before.
  • Handshake might be hard to use for education providers who are not the most tech-savvy.
  • Handshake for work-study positions separate from paid jobs is something that may need to be addressed differently.

Instead of using an extensive job search engine like indeed, Handshake weeds out all of the noise for students. Jobs do not get lost in searches for students, and they only see what they need, making finding a job easier. More positions are filled using handshake, and we know the quality of students that we are getting to hire. With large search engines, there is an element of unpredictability in who you are recruiting.

Handshake is ideal for large institutions wanting to fill numerous student positions. It's also suitable for community partners tied to colleges and universities to not only post jobs but internships and volunteer/service work as well. Handshake is also great for career fairs in a virtual setting, although those events may not appeal to all student constituencies.
