Overall Satisfaction with HPE BladeSystem
HPE BladeSystem is very stable and with the correct setup, a highly available server management platform. We have four enclosures within two data centers for failover. With integrated power, network (we currently use Virtual Connect) and ILO, it is very easy to manage and makes an admin's live much easier. You can start with a limited number of servers and expand the numbers later easily.
- Expandable
- Easy to manage
- Included power management
- Included network management (Virtual Connect)
- FW management is a little tricky and outdated
- With virtual connect, you are responsible for correct LAN/WAN management, not the network team
- From a pricing point of view, it is more expensive
- Administrative work is reduced, as you can manage everything centrally
We only have evaluated and compared the HPE Apollo Server system. Is also a very decent system, but when it comes to network connections, HPE Blade with Virtual Connect has a big advantage. We can connect around 24 server in a two-Blade chassis with 8 x 50 GBe Ethernet Ports with redundancy. With Apollo, we would have to connect every server with two ports (24 x 2 = 48). So we would also have to buy new switches and install many, many extra cables. HPE BladeSystem is the Rolls Royce of connection management.
