Overall Satisfaction with IBM Apptio

Our organization uses Apptio to help gain visibility and insights into IT costs and better understand where our costs and investments are spent. Our goal is to achieve IT Showback for our business units with the longer term goal of leverage technology business management data for IT Chargeback.

The other opportunity is to extend our IT associates knowledge of what types of costs they incur for their respective areas.

Pros

  • Ability to organize IT costs in various categories out of the box
  • Flexibility in modeling business logic
  • Providing an ATUM model to help start the TBM journey

Cons

  • Better reporting, particularly in the UX/UI area
  • Overall performance of Cost Transparency with larger dataset
  • Lack of training and or adoption for new TBM users
  • Transparency into IT cost by business capabilities
Our business does not currently utilize these features in-depth and therefore cannot comment. However, Apptio BI and report is lacking and therefore do not use the OOTB capabilities provided.
Generally positive and responsive. In-depth technical questions or support tend to take longer and is not typically as helpful.
  • Cloudability
It has been generally positive and have been complimentary. However, integration between products is still lacking and often requires work on the customer side to resolve/solution.

IBM Apptio is best suited for organizations where IT costs are centrally managed and maintained. Where there is less shadow IT present.
