Aspera works well, but is hard to implement.
Overall Satisfaction with IBM Aspera on Cloud
To move large data files from on-premise to on the cloud. Most of our unstructured data and even some structured datasets can move quickly into the cloud.
Pros
- Easy to connect to data sources
- Fast data moving
- Integrated with IBM cloud
Cons
- Difficult to set up
- Firewall causes issues
- Allowed for bigger files to transfer without heavy implementation of data storage in the cloud
Aspera comes with IBM cloud so there isn’t really a choice. Since it’s built-in, it integrates well and there was no need to buy another solution. Therefore, I did not consider other options. It worked fine, gave access files, push data securely, and did it faster than standard HTTPS.
- IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers
- IBM Cloud Databases
- IBM Watson Studio (formerly IBM Data Science Experience)
- IBM Watson Machine Learning
- IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog
This simplifies the security concerns since data only goes to one vendor for analytics and data science consumption. Also, legal liability for breach protection is easier to obtain this way as well.
Just less wait time, which is always good.
Yes, our data is sensitive and needs the secure data transfer. Otherwise I couldn’t use the tool.
Yes, like most organizations, we need security roles to allow access to data, and IBM cloud has a full suite of role accesses that help manage multiple users in the same environment.
