Overall Satisfaction with IBM Instana
Instana is used for monitoring several business-critical applications both in Production and Non-Production environments. The most important feature that we use is the tracing of HTTP calls and their flow in the private infrastucture of our customers. In particular I used Instana to perform Performance tests on the release candidate software.
- Tracing of HTTP calls, providing the details of the services involved
- Auto-discovery of the application stack through online agents installed on the machines
- Monitoring of the infrastructure
- More details about the traffic that is flowing (eg. capturing all headers and requests/responses for a small portion of the traffic for troubleshooting purposes)
- Performance of the web application (Instana itself) sometimes were not good
- Simplify the infrastructure tab
- Tracing
- Infrastructure Monitoring
- Resources (and therefore cost) management
- It had a significantly positive impact
In terms of flexibility Instana wins by providing the auto-discovery functions that are very precious to my company since they allow monitoring and tracing of the application services even after big infrastructural changes. In this regars, competitors still require to hardwire the connections between agents and monitoring/tracing data servers.
