Overall Satisfaction with IBM Planning Analytics

CSM use IBM Planning Analytics for budgeting, forecasting, and real-time analysis. We also use the forecasted data to feed other systems and reporting. The idea is having a consensus forecasted number throughout CSM systems. One truth data source that flows to other systems. One place to enter the forecasted data (eliminate multiple data entry in different systems).

Pros

  • Easy to slice and dice the data
  • Excel friendly
  • Able to snapshot the data for non-user license

Cons

  • Auto scheduler and email recipients
  • Bursting the report by organization (or by business needs)
  • A good knowledge base (not outdated)
  • I don't have a hard number to provide, however I know we have been using IBM Planning Analytics for over 10 years and the system has become our main tool in budgeting and forecasting.
  • We are not sure if we are able to go back using Excel for budgeting and forecasting. IBM Planning Analytics has improved the forecast accuracy.
  • We are planning to use the Predictive Analytics to project our budget and forecast in the future. This is in our radar.
We have been using IBM Planning Analytics and haven't explored other products that could cover our business needs.

Do you think IBM Planning Analytics delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with IBM Planning Analytics's feature set?

Yes

Did IBM Planning Analytics live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of IBM Planning Analytics go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy IBM Planning Analytics again?

Yes

IBM Planning Analytics is well suited to CSM as we are Excel based users. The data source is from the cubes and is able to link to Excel. This allow FPA to slice and dice the data and add extra columns and rows when they need to calculate the data. This feature is a plus.

I haven’t seen what is less appropriate on using IBM Planning Analytics in our company. As far as I know we all are craving for more that can make our job easier and data accuracy.

Scalability and Accessibility

I am considering myself still in learning mode. I found the new PAW is way much better environment for me who just jump into IBM Planning Analytics. One thing I am struggling is I found myself lack of accounting knowledge. It is a bit too techies for accountants to model. It is a bit hard to find the perfect person who know accountant knowledge plus techie enough to build the system.

IBM Planning Analytics Support

IBM Planning Analytics has its own team that will help answer our questions besides login into IBM ticket. They host "Ask Me Anything" every month. They provide community site that allow us to share all Q&A. We are able to share our issues and solutions among the TM1 users.
