Overall Satisfaction with IBM Planning Analytics

We use IBM Planning Analytics for Budgeting and Forecasting across our stores, depots, business units, cost centres and projects. With over 700 locations, 30 business units, 160 cost centres, 1600 Accounts and a multitude of projects (plus 17 markets and multiple currencies) there is a lot to manage and keep track of. We originally ran a primarily bottom-up approach using Contributor but found that the need to centrally adjust budgets negated the value of direct local input and so we we reverted to a centralised collaborative model

Pros

  • Consolidation and Data Roll-up
  • Application of rules
  • Spreading and Financial Adjustments

Cons

  • Staying License compliant with on-prem solutions can be challenging
  • IBM Documentation is lightweight - there is a reliance on 3rd parties
  • The wealth of security options is great, but can be difficult to administer
  • Efficiency - Analysing data rather than entering/gathering it
  • Flexibility - Last minute system-wide changes
We don't use Planning Analytics for what-if analysis
Planning Analytics integrates seamlessly with Cognos Analytics to support all aspects of our Financial Reporting against both dimensional (TM1) and relational and ad hoc data sources
