Overall Satisfaction with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
Mainly focused to resolve centralized complex backup problems in the environment, widely used its data replication mechanism to transport/ship the data across multiple sites for enhanced reliability and keeping multiple copies of the data for recovery in case of disasters. In addition, inbuild integration with market-leading cloud service providers gives freedom to host non-critical business data and place them in different geographies. Lastly, popular functions such as space savings flashcopies, compression and deduplication features are a real deal life savers.

- IBM Spectrum Protect Plus dedupe algorithm is well designed to eliminate duplicate blocks and save maximum capacity.
- It needs better integration with native VMWARE and its associated components, especially while taking backups of VM environments.
- Due to the ability to implement dedupe, significant cost savings has been achieved.
- Replication eases our life by discarding physical carrying of tapes.
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus doesn't allow taking backup of the Meditech HIMS application, due to the unique nature of the database and its functionality. As it's a special case, the vendor supports only a few fully integrated backup solutions which resulted in using Bridgehead as a trustable backup option specific to the application.
