Overall Satisfaction with IBM watsonx.ai

We use IBM watsonx.ai mainly to create demos and proof-of-concpets (PoC) of generative AI applications.
Watsonx.ai make is easy to start tuning models, even without much experience in AI or coding, so it is convenient for quickly building demos.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Provides a subsequent number of pre-trained models
  • Integration with the overall Watson platform

Cons

  • The performance of pre-trained models could be better
  • Wish it had innovative models for Image/Video generation
  • Very limited Japanese documentation
  • Reduces significantly the time and budget required to create demos
  • Does not require technical training for users (save on training costs)
  • Helps boosting sales in AI product development
I think that the user interface is where IBM watsonx.ai shines the most compared to competitors.
There is a visual tool to build AI pipelines in a very easy and instinctive way, that anybody can master in no time I think.

I would recommend using IBM watsonx.ai in scenarios where people with limited or no engineering knowledge need to create quick demos or proof-of-concepts, without high expectations on model performance.
I think it is less appropriate when developing business scale applications or cutting edge applications when model performance is key.
