It is being used across the whole organization to run batch jobs and do development modeling and run analytics.

Batch processing
Backend processing
Resource management

Cons

Ease of installation of some products
Automation
Monitoring of some internal subsystems like DB2

Return on Investment

Not my area but I think it has been positive
Cost is an issue across all platforms including Z

Well Suited:
When you need to perform billions of transactions per second running numerous address spaces queuing millions of lines of output, managing all of the internal and external resources needed to process complicated programs using, many languages and compilers

Not Well Suited:
GUI presentations but it's getting better.
