Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

Primary use is to merge smaller PDF documents into a single document. This process also involves a lot of scan documents into a pdf file. This allows consolidating PDF documents and then using bookmarks to make the contents easy to locate. Scanned documents are made searchable to make them easier to locate specific information.
For example, bank statements we have a single PDF file for the entire year. Then each month that month is appended to the file by either inserting downloaded statement or scanning a hard copy of the statement.

Pros

  • Reorganization of pages.
  • Scanning from scanners.
  • Indexing documents via bookmarks.

Cons

  • Profile management for the scanner, profiles are easy to add but you can't edit or delete them.
  • Cropping, I generally want to crop a single page where the default is entire document. There have been multiple times where I cropped entire documents because I forgot to change the default.
  • Help is extremely hard to find what you are looking for and often when found there is insufficient information.
  • It has helped tremendously in document retention. Almost all information is save to PDF documents and stored on encrypted drives.
Power PDF is easy to use once you figure out how to do a task. There are many tasks that take some searching to figure out how to do. One problem is that they are trying to make the menu bars match the Microsoft standard, as a result I have spent a lot of time trying to locate where they moved that menu option.
Initially used Adobe Accrobat and when it came time that I needed to update to a new version. I looked around for different options primarily looking for something cheaper. At that time Nuance appeared to be functionally equivalent and quite a bit cheaper. Decided to give Nuance a try and have been well pleased with the results.
Their online help is pitiful. Searching thru their forums doesn't provide much more useful information.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
Document organization, get pages into the correct order, appending information to a document. Deleting blank pages. Overall creation and maintenance of documents.
It is well suited for most tasks. However, often trying to figure out how to do the task the first time can be quite daunting.
