Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

Initially, we had a frequent need to edit PDF pieces given to us by suppliers so that they could be passed on to our clients. Power PDF filled the bill, and for a fraction of the cost of other options. As time went on, we discovered that we could easily reformat documents rather than create different versions from scratch... a huge time saver! We could easily customize documents for clients, automatically number pages (with a variety of options to choose from), eliminate (or add) blank pages to a document, drop in signatures and dates, and more. There was a fairly steep learning curve at first, but the newer versions have addressed that so that users of MS Office will catch on pretty quickly. I bought Power PDF for me to use for one specific recurring need, but it's become something that I use several times a week for many different reasons. I've taught others in the company to use it as well, and just today I did a demo for someone from another company in need of this type of software - and I think she's sold! PDF documents are now as easy to edit like any other document.
  • Merges multiple documents (even if different types) into one PDF document.
  • Allows editing and formatting of PDF documents created by others.
  • Easily and neatly complete forms without printing them out and doing by hand.
  • Sometimes editing text/objects isn't as straightforward as I'd like. For instance, the need to right-click to get to formatting options rather than getting an automatic menu when text or object is selected.
  • Some tools aren't where I expect them to be, so I have to waste time hunting them down.
  • I recently spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to pull an image in as a new stamp.
  • Would love to see a dedicated space for storing scanned signatures.
  • I save countless hours using Power PDF to complete forms rather than doing them by hand - and they look more professional in the process.
  • The ability to edit a document I'm sent rather than recreate it from scratch saves time every single week.
This is my third version of Power PDF. The original one I used had a steep learning curve and wasn't very intuitive. The second version was better, but I still found that others in my company weren't using it because they didn't have the patience to learn how. The current version, however, is now much more familiar in both layout and functionality. Power PDF does things you can't do in word processing software, so there is still some learning required, but for the most part, it's not difficult. I now teach others to use Power PDF quickly and find that they embrace it as a useful tool far more often - and more quickly - than before.
Actually, I've never had a need to request support! But I have no reason to think it would be anything less than good.
