Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance Power PDF)
We have been transitioning away from Adobe Acrobat to Power PDF over the last few years as computers are upgraded and replaced. We use Power PDF everyday to manage our and our clients' legal documents as the .pdf format is the industry standard for almost everything we do. Power PDF is used both as a reader and an editor.
- Redaction.
- File size reduction.
- Custom stamping (for exhibit "stickers" on documents).
- There are sometimes odd issues with the drag and drop, page organization features.
- The text selection tool is often delayed in "grabbing" the text.
- The search feature is slower than Adobe's.
- Power PDF is the unusual combination of being a much more functional program than its primary competitor, Adobe Acrobat, and is a fraction of the cost.
- I particularly like being able to buy a license to Power PDF as opposed to be trapped into Adobe's SAS financial model.
The program is easy to use. Some of its advanced features require some digging and clicking around. But I found the online resources more than robust enough to explain how to do everything I have ever tried to do. The redaction feature is key for a law firm and Power PDF's is the best I have seen.
Admittedly, we first started the switch from Adobe Acrobat to Power PDF purely for cost-saving reasons. We had owned several Adobe Acrobat 9.0 licenses for years. As computers needed to be upgraded as part of the transition to Windows 10, we needed to also upgrade Acrobat. Power PDF was simply cheaper. But once we deployed it, everyone on the staff liked it much better.

For us, the Convert to MS Word feature is the one we use the most. Power PDF does this better than any other program we have ever used for this purpose. The custom stamp feature is also easy to use. We use it for exhibit stickers and signature images. Power PDF is easier to use for these features than Adobe.
