Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We started using Linode hosting services in 2017. Moving from DigitalOcean, our motivation at the beginning was just pricing. But after four years I can say reliability and professional service is key for remaining. We still have some servers running on a local data center, but have plans to move all of them to Linode in next months/years. We use Linode's VPS for custom web services for all customers, which are small companies. For $5 to $20 at month, we can host a web application with some hundreds of users.
  • Administration panel is easy to use.
  • VPS is pretty fast, enough for our needs.
  • When a problem arises, they notify us and solve it in minutes.
  • Recently I was surprised to find more regions in Europe to place my VPS
  • Billing. I wish to have invoices in Euros.
  • Due to Brexit, we abandoned our London data center. I would like to have some other in Spain or France to balance our assets.
  • I would like to know more about how secure Linode's data centers are. We know literally nothing about these infrastructures.
  • They added more regions in Europe. But billing remains in USD only
  • Positive. For a $5/month VPS, I can host a custom web app for a customer and bill him a lot more.
I moved to Linode for the pricing, but quality of service is pretty good. Heroku is great for novice programmers with no DevOps experience, but you pay an extra cost for it. DigitalOcean has much better docs and tutorials than Linode (BTW, these material apply for Linode as they are for same hosting technologies), but if you have some experience at the Linux field, you can install all of your dependencies and run for less cost.
In fact, I've needed customer support in rare occasions. In those cases, service was pretty fast and adequate. I love when I get notified something is wrong at 3:00 am and by 3:30 am it was resolved with no notice by me or my customers.
I think it depends of your skills maintaining and configuring linux servers. Luckily, we can fix most issues by ourselves.
Pay-as-you-go, but with big monthly data transfers and reasonable main disk sizes. In a local data center our costs would be a lot more and with less security.
I've experienced some downs with Linode, but none lasted for more than 30 minutes. I wish my local data center was as good. In four years, I have never received a complaint from my customers due a failure of Linode.

Do you think Linode delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Linode's feature set?

Yes

Did Linode live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Linode go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Linode again?

Yes

For small web services or applications, you don't need the scalability of AWS, Azure or GCP. With Linode you have no surprises in the monthly cost. Otherwise, if you need to scale fast or by season demands, you'll need to do a lot of work manually.
We also use Object Storage. It fits all our needs for a small project.
