Overall Satisfaction with Linode

Linode powers the servers that run our website and blog.
  • Reliable services.
  • Excellent web interfaces.
  • Competitive pricing.
  • Excellent documentation.
  • No cons! Maybe it could be even cheaper or easier to use…
  • More control over web servers.
  • Multiple websites on a shared server for no extra cost.
I first heard about Linode from ads in every episode of Marco Arment's podcasts Under the Radar and Accidental Tech Podcast. They also offered discount codes that amounted to extended free trials. Marco's endorsement, combined with the generous introductory free period and the ongoing low cost made it an easy choice. I switched from a single-site WordPress.com account to running my own servers, and I haven't looked back.
It's hard for me to know for sure, because I maybe only reached out to their human support once in over three years. The service is so reliable!
Linode has been an extremely cost-effective solution to host multiple low-traffic websites on a single, easy-to-manage server.
Linode is good about letting me know if and when it has any scheduled or unscheduled downtime. Usually I don't even notice it. My server might restart every now and then, and my (low-traffic) website is back up and running before anyone seems to have missed it.
I came to Linode without much prior experience managing servers. I really appreciated the thorough documentation to help me set up a server, configure a web server, keep the system as secure as possible, and maintain everything. I can start small and grow with Linode as my company grows.

Using Linode

1 - I use Linode as the sole Member of my company, for both technical and marketing purposes.
1 - I am the sole Member of my company and manage my Linode account independently. Linode requires at least some technical knowledge to build and manage a server. They have excellent documentation and automation technology to make it as simple as possible. For example, they have some automations for getting something like a self-hosted Wordpress instance up and running with just a few clicks. However, I took a more DIY approach to building a Linux server, installing my own web server, and other software I wanted to host for my company's operations and web presence.
  • Domain and website hosting
  • Control over self-hosted, self-managed software
  • Cost-effective solution for running and managing software
  • Great tools, support, and maintenance at a reasonable price
  • Linode makes it easy to spin up test nodes for new software
  • Linode provides step-by-step instructions for configuring and securing self-hosted sites and services
  • As business grows, Linode makes it easy to add additional nodes and manage with load balancing.
  • If the business expands into areas requiring more web services or block storage, Linode readily supports this as well
I have been using Linode for years and have yet to see anything better in the market that would motivate me to switch. I was a little nervous about what might change after Akamai acquired Linode, but so far things are the same or better, including the very reasonable pricing that Linode has always offered.
