Overall Satisfaction with Akamai Cloud Computing

We are a small design agency and host a number of mostly WordPress websites on mostly LEMP stacks. Some clients have dedicated VPS servers but most are sharing a VPS with others.

Pros

  • Reliability had always been solid with very few incidents of unplanned downtime.
  • Performance has always been solid.

Cons

  • Support tickets can sometimes sit unanswered for a long time (+24 hours) which is concerning when you've had a sever taken down for sending spam and have since resolved the issue.
  • Didn't seem hugely open to suggestions (in my case allowing tags to be deleted / renamed).
  • Improved operational efficiency via streamlined deployment.
Linode was considerably cheaper than Rackspace, Azure and Amazon when I last checked. It's also pretty simple by comparison.
Some poor response times have left me disappointed on occasion.

Excellent low cost hosting option if you have the time / knowledge to maintain your own server(s). Conversely, if time/expertise are not at hand an alternative would be more appropriate.

For our comparatively low costs, we pride our ability to provide reliable, high quality performance worldwide on a constantly expanding fleet of servers. Tickets are handled on a First In/First Out basis which can frustratingly lead to situations where response time can vary. In critical situations of downtime or unexpected system issues, we encourage our customers to call our 24/7 phone line since this will help get immediate review of your issue. Additionally, while it may not be directly available in Cloud Manager, custom tags can be added and removed using our Linode-CLI (linode-cli tags list,remove,add) but we appreciate the feedback given about our response to your suggestion.
