Overall Satisfaction with Linode

The cloud compute marketplace is increasingly crowded, and results are not always consistent - low-cost offerings can look appealing, but my experience of using Linode is that they provide consistently great performance at a price point others can't match. Their portfolio of products is ever-expanding, and yet they are really focussing on being good at a few things rather than blurring heavily into the SaaS approach. I love using Linode for my ephemeral compute requirements, especially when prototyping or performing research and development.
  • High performance Linux based compute
  • Flexible, pay as you go pricing that has become the norm in the industry
  • Great support from real human beings!
  • If you're looking for SaaS, look elsewhere, but that's not what I go to Linode for
  • Storage prices are high
  • Linode has reduced my costs for capital acquisitions in terms of compute.
I've had performance issues with other providers, and when running workloads where CPU performance is vitally important, my experience with Linode has been excellent. The cloud landscape is crowded, and I think it's important to know why one vendor might stand out amongst others, and in the case of Linode, their clear pricing structure and value proposition makes them an easy choice.
This is so rare in this day and age. Support from vendors can be so variable, and I've experienced so much SLA bound support where the SLA response really goes no further than "we had a human say they are looking into your ticket" within the SLA. Other offerings don't include support at all unless you pay a premium, and Linode's approach is a breath of fresh air.
This is difficult to quantify at this time, but as someone who has been highly dependent on building flexible architectures for product demos, proof of concepts, and for learning purposes, Linode has reduced my requirements for hardware, which incurs both a capital cost and then costs in terms of running, maintenance, support agreements and so on.
I have personally had no issues with Linode, and find their infrastructure to be very reliable. Of course, this is something that you probably only notice when it actually goes wrong, but so far I've had no issues with Linode which I think reflects very highly on the quality of their offering and services.

Yes

If you want a robust, reliable, high-performance cloud compute solution then I personally feel that Linode is a great place to start. I find them excellent for those variable workloads that come and go, but where you need complete control over the lifecycle of your machines, and flexibility to spin new ones up and shut redundant ones down at will.
