Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

  • We use it for sending emails, gathering contact information on our website and at tradeshows, lead scoring, individual product scoring, tracking online behavior, managing leads through the sales cycle.
  • Nothing.
We evaluated 16 different companies. Marketo and Eloqua ended up at the top of our list. We chose Marketo because user-adoption was critical for us. We felt we could be up and running faster with Marketo, and would need very little training. I believe we made the right choice. The Marketo system is very intuitive and easy to use. Our users were able to start creating campaigns on day 1, and were excited to use the system. It helped us get up and running fast. The company culture at Marketo was also a better fit for our company... they are a big company with a large user base, but still have a "small company" feel. They take very good care of their customers!

Using Marketo's core features

  • Email Templates
  • Forms
  • Smart Campaigns
  • Segmentation
  • Lead Nurture
  • Reporting/Analytics

Benefits of using some of Marketo's core features

Marketo's segmentation capabilities allow us to target market efficiently and track results in unique ways.
Marketo's smart campaigns allow us to complete very advanced filters, to target correspondence on customer preference as well as on information that we know increases our response rates. We want our correspondence to be relevant and engaging, advanced filters allow us to do that on a more massive scale.

Using Marketo

15 - Sales and Marketing
2 - We have two marketing specialists that support the software. They both do so part-time.
  • Online forms, lead scoring, emails, automated campaigns, landing pages
I've heard that Eloqua has launched some new features, and I'd be interested to see what their platform looks like now. However, we are really happy with Marketo. The software does everything we want it to do, they provide a high level of support, and I've been able to connect with other users of the software to share best practices. So at the end of the day I would not want to switch to another platform. I've really been impressed with the performance of the Marketo software and value the culture of the company.
  • We can track the effectiveness of various campaigns including tradeshows and emails. We can follow the customer all the way through the sale, and more accurately estimate ROI.

Evaluating Marketo and Competitors

Yes - We needed a solution that provided more than just email functionality. I attended Dreamforce and discovered the power of marketing automation.

Marketo Implementation

Quick and easy. We anticipated having a lot of difficulties with the sync between Marketo and Salesforce, but it was surprisingly smooth (despite our many custom fields in SFDC). We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to sync.
  • Vendor implemented
  • Implemented in-house

Marketo Training

  • Online training
  • In-person training
  • Self-taught
Although they did not have to, they offered to have someone come and visit our company for the day. He spent time with various groups (sales, marketing, admins). It helped our sales people to understand the value of Sales Insight and how to use the information, and he was able to work with those building campaigns to increase our knowledge. We really appreciated that Marketo volunteered to send this person (at no cost to the company).
The instructor was engaging and friendly. They covered multiple topics and ensured we had time to practice. By the end of training we already had built our first campaigns and they were ready to run.
The system is quite intuitive. So although I would recommend attending training so that you can learn the short cuts and best practices, most users could probably be self-taught and still use the software effectively.

Using Marketo

Quick user adoption. Drag-n-drop functionality. Lots of flexibility. Easy to use, yet powerful. Steady stream of new releases continue to improve the usability as well.

Marketo Reliability

We've never had a problem.
The reports can be slow at times if you are pulling large reports, or searching through large databases. But otherwise the system performs well.

Integrating Marketo

  • Salesforce
Everything syncs, and it was easy to do so.
  • Webinars.
Yes, they do so now. But we haven't had time on our end to do this.

Relationship with Marketo

We were able to negotiate quite a bit on the cost of the software since we were evaluating other companies, and Marketo knew this. They reduced the overall cost for us, and committed to not raising the price by more than 5% per contract renewal. So we know in the future we won't suddenly be stuck with a large cost to renew. I would definitely go back and forth with them when signing, because they WILL negotiate and lower the price. At least that is what we experienced.
