Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

Marketo was used in our marketing department, to communicate and send qualified leads to sales. It also was used independently to manage leads and send out and manage webinars and drip campaigns.
  • It can manage a high number of leads and contacts and automate many campaigns. Once it's set up, it runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Out of the box integration with Zoom.
  • The user interface is extremely difficult to use. It's not intuitive where to go to set things up, or why certain things appear the way they do.
  • There are multiple ways to enter the same function, yet none of them are intuitive.
  • The html coding inserts a bunch of unnecessary code that can skew what your emails and landing pages look like.
  • Prospecting / New Business
For Prospecting, you can import leads, manage them, and send them targeted campaigns.
  • Attract the right customers
Marketo did seem to do a good job of differentiating customers and qualifying them based on certain actions.
I didn't select Marketo. I saw the demo for Act-On and saw how intuitive things were, how easy it was to use, and how much cheaper it was. But my marketing manager wanted to stay with Marketo because of the investment we had already made. Act-On looked so much better.
For companies with a lot of money who can pay consultants high amounts of money to do things for them and set it up, go ahead. This is not for people who want to run things on their own. It's super difficult to use.

Learnings & Advice

I was able to successfully launch campaigns, hold webinars, follow up with users, and convert leads. This was way more difficult than I could have imagined. I learned I wanted to use a different program.
I didn't have any. Just trying to do standard stuff proved incredibly difficult.
I would explore other options.

Marketo Training

No, it is extremely difficult to learn and find how to do things. I've never spent so much time calling support for any product in my life. I would not recommend it.

Using Marketo

The usability is super poor, even their support team has trouble helping you with it. It takes numerous clicks to accomplish simple tasks. It's so frustrating that there are several different ways to get to a certain thing, such as resizing an image or changing a font, and yet, things revert to make it hard to do this. I once spent 3 hours trying to prevent text from becoming gray every time I changed the text. Could be the worst Ux I've ever seen.
ProsCons
None
Do not like to use
Unnecessarily complex
Difficult to use
Slow to learn
Cumbersome
Feel nervous using
  • I did not find anything easy to use with Marketo.
  • Copying a campaign and replacing pictures and text. Sounds easy, it was extremely difficult.
  • Deleting or managing multiple instances of the same person. There is not cleanup. I believe I was offered to pay thousands of dollars to have it cleaned up for me.
