We use Marketo primarily as our lead database for marketing efforts and for all of our marketing automation. It helps us consolidate and separate important marketing initiatives from our CRM to allow for more on list building lead generation without having to clutter our salesforce instance, which is extremely important for our sales and customer success teams.

All of our inbound lead growth is captured through marketo. It is at the crux of our revenue funnel and through it's vast automation and lead scoring, it paves the way for all of our qualified lead handoff to our sales team. In addition to that too, it has all of our email flywheels for lead nurture.
I used pardot and hubspot for email/marketing automation and although i'd argue that hubspot is a lot easier to teach, neither of them are as flexible as Marketo. For companies that have very specific needs for complex triggers and want to integrate a bunch of tools into thir marketing automation, Marketo is THE solution.
