Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Access

As an employee at a higher education institution, I use Access every day to manage the operations of my particular department. I receive requests for equipment from all parts of campus, and I use an Access database to enter, sort, track and print daily reports of those requests. Access is easy to enter data and student workers actually do most of the data entry and daily report generation.
  • Access handles a lot of data. In my case, there are over 20,000 lines of data in the database.
  • I have several customized queries that extract specific data points from the main database and that is formatted in a way that makes it easy to sort by date, type of request, etc.
  • From the data generated from various queries, I create daily, weekly, weekend and monthly reports of duties, tasks and requests.
  • I wish there were easier ways to generate custom forms. A wizard that would toggle through each column of data would be great.
  • Report generation with behind the scenes query would be nice.
  • Since this is part of our enterprise deployment, I cannot speak to ROI.
Access is great for handling gobs of data and converting that data into something useful. Access excels at sending queries to the database and extracting that data. With reports, making that data available and presentable is easy and straightforward.
