Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Access
We use Microsoft Access as an inventory database for large-purchase orders of materials that we in turn convert (custom, based on customer needs/designs). Once a shipping container has been received and the material(s) tagged, they are entered into Microsoft Access with dimensions, lot/batch numbers and quantity. At this point, the primary users are our Sales team, Order Costing & Material handlers.
Pros
- Once set up correctly, searching using personalized drop-downs
- Remote accessibility
- Ample room for comments/special requirements
Cons
- Interface could be more user-friendly
- Appearance could be updated
- Ability to "step" back search parameters instead of needing to essentially "clear all"
- Improved functionality for Material Purchasing
- Ease of data entry/cataloging raw material shipments for Receiving
- Improved inventory search/location-specific tracking for Material Handling
- At-a-glance inventory & cost visibility for Sales team
- Microsoft Office 2016 (discontinued)
Microsoft Access is used independently of Microsoft's Office suite (also in use) at our company - the usual applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and does not really overlap. Microsoft Access was selected as a simple, functional inventory database based on ease of data entry, search functionality and avoiding the need for a separate ERP module.
