Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance

Our company uses Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance (F&O) for project management, time entry, and billing for all the consultants in our Microsoft Dynamics implementation business. Our company spans three countries, US, Canada, and Ukraine. The data entry is entirely in F&O, and there has been significant work to form a synchronization between F&O and DevOps where our development and documentation reside for projects. This process was long and arduous, with many hurdles and it took about two years to complete.

Pros

  • Financial reporting
  • Multi-company consolidation
  • Hub and spoke setup
  • Web-based access

Cons

  • Flexibility in configuration
  • Project management tracking
  • Interoperability with external systems
  • Ease of customization
  • Because F&O is not very nimble, we are looking to reimplement
  • The lack of interoperability has hindered our ability to use external tools to supplement shortcomings of the product
  • The inflexibility has lead to great frustration from team leads
Our company actually began as an Axapta based value added reseller (VAR). As it was the main focus it was implemented as the primary financial system. Over the past decade, the company focus has changed through multiple acquisitions in the US, Canada, and Ukraine / Eastern Europe. The focus has come to more Small / Medium business implementations focusing on Business Central, Great Plains (upgrading to Business Central), and CRM. F&O has not been able to change / be flexible enough to move with the focus of our business and we are looking to reimplement to Business Central in 2026.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is more robust, and can handle larger, more complex business operations, and have better delineation between corporate management and divisions in a company, but it is not flexible, nor easy to change. It is complex, inflexible, and difficult to incorporate new workflows or business rules to accommodate changes in the business. We have changed over the past decade and while F&O is big and robust, it is not nimble.

Do you think Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance's feature set?

No

Did Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance again?

No

I think Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is well suited to an established company that is relatively inflexible and large. It contains very large divisions or even separate entities that all feed into the same database / g/l structure. The optimal company will not have many changes over time, and will be configured once and any new divisions or companies will be forced to fit into the corporate dictated structure and rules.
