Overall Satisfaction with Onshape

OnShape’s cloud presence and device agnosticism means that I can use it with any mobile device at any time. Practically, when I’m on the shop floor and need to quickly design a fixture or jig I need only have a pair of calipers and my tablet. Very quickly I can model a part or simple assembly to fit the exact application.
  • 3D modeling.
  • Geometry import.
  • Third-party apps.
  • Geometry healing tools.
  • NURBS/mesh editing.
  • Slight learning curve.
  • String set of modeling features.
  • Imports common 3D data.
  • As a stop-gap CAD tool a license pays for itself for the engineer who needs to not be tethered.
While a fair likeness in features and use, OnShape has stronger cloud options and baked-in PDM.

Did Onshape live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Onshape go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Onshape again?

Yes

It’s an all-around replacement for your present desktop CAD tool and works well for most geometry use-cases. Its best application is for machine design or those assemblies made of mechanical components. But don’t look down your nose at its ability to be used for more complicated 3D shapes (think consumer products and electronics).
