Overall Satisfaction with Optimizely Feature Experimentation

We have a full-stack application with separate backend services and frontend. In this architecture, we use Optimizely as a common feature service that will be serviced to different services at the same time regardless of the language the application is written in. Thanks to Optimizely, splitting multiple environments and setting different feature flags for them is easy.

Pros

  • Environment specific structure is easy to implement.
  • Easy to extend, can have multiple dataset as criteria for single flag.
  • Language-agnostic implementation possibility.

Cons

  • Some large data sets are very slow to load in Optimizely UI.
  • It would be nice to have a push notification distribution system instead of individual apps pulling it.
  • It helped us to isolate the shared data storage solution which is self-maintained.
  • I saved time for my team to implement more features and extend the feature enabling across services.
It was always intuitive and practical to use this tool. I almost never had problems with the data or consistency of the service. Why not 10? The UI needs some improvements at some points, especially with data-set update screens, where conditions are loaded into the UI one by one. It is not a major issue, and I am sure that it will be fixed soon.

Do you think Optimizely Feature Experimentation delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Optimizely Feature Experimentation's feature set?

Yes

Did Optimizely Feature Experimentation live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Optimizely Feature Experimentation go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Optimizely Feature Experimentation again?

Yes

It is a great tool when you have apps written in different languages and don't have common data storage for these applications, but you like to enable/disable functionality in multiple services at a time. It is well suited for blue/green deployments, too.
