Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
We currently use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as the back end of our non-production/Dev/QA environment. We run an Oracle Enterprise Instance with 100 PDBs. This configuration allows us to the most cost-efficient way to run a large number of Oracle DB non-production DBs and comply with Oracle licensing terms.
Pros
- Oracle DB
- License Compliance
- Oracle Enterprise Edition
Cons
- Stability - We'd have multiple outages
- Cost - It's the most cost-efficient solution by far, but it's still multiple times the cost of a similar solution from Microsoft Azure
- Ease of Use - Nothing is ever easy; it's always more complicated and complex than it has to be
- Positive ROI
- Lowered Capital Licensing Costs
AWS provides a much more advanced cloud infrastructure than Oracle, but it was too expensive to purchase Oracle licenses for use in AWS. Oracle offers a more cost-effective solution if you run it in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
