Overall Satisfaction with Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series

We use Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series at all our locations. They function as router/firewall appliances, perform web filtering, and provide both client and clientless VPN access. Additionally, they are set up for site-to-site VPN connectivity between locations. They are robust in all they do and are an integral part of our networking. I recommend the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series devices to anyone looking for a better router/firewall appliance.

  • Commit speed is slow when modifying the settings
  • Reporting is there but lacking
  • All High Availability devices must also be fully licensed. We did not know this until deciding to roll out HA.
  • Many types of updates, such as security policy updates, can be scheduled to auto-update.
The few aspects of the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series that could use improvement - such as slow commit times, which I hear they have improved on in the newest models - are vastly outshined by everything else these appliances provide. We have been using the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series appliances for more than 10 years and plan to continue using them for the foreseeable future.
The Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls - PA Series equaled or outperformed the competitors we compared it with. Palo Alto Networks has a good reputation in the router/firewall and network security realm, and we have not been disappointed. Subscription costs have not fluctuated much over the past ten years, making it easier to budget from year to year.

The clientless VPN is great when you need to offer temporary access to a consultant or vendor and limit their access. However, get the best model for your user count, or you may encounter performance issues or limited storage capacity for logs. Additionally, these are not plug-and-play devices and you must either have a strong networking foundation to configure them correctly or hire a consultant to perform the configuration for you.
