Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for the entire technological aspect of our systems developed with Laravel. We find its performance, indexing, and versatility to be able to install plugins that help further enhance the IDE quite useful.The integrated AI tool is also quite useful for generating generic or basic code that is tedious to constantly generate.

Usability

We really like PhpStorm. In our large projects, it's very helpful to search and find code, classes, and/or functions, which significantly speeds up task development or the implementation of new workflows. It's easy to use, and everything is well organized so you know exactly what tools you're using or want to use.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft Visual Studio Code and Sublime Text

While these two are also code editors, they are far from as robust as the PhpStorm IDE. Although these editors also support plugins to perform functions similar to PhpStorm, by bringing it natively it is much more efficient and you get rid of compatibility worries, etc. and it is not that they are bad editors, they are simply focused on projects different from those that are developed in my organization.

In general, PhpStorm is a very complete IDE, although it is good for small projects, its strength is the management of large projects, its indexing helps you know where things are, its search engine is wonderful, and as I mentioned before, it becomes even more powerful with its plugins to enhance weak points, its integrated AI tool is very good, both for generating code, resolving doubts or refactoring complete flows.
