Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook
We have a number of use cases.
1) To identify potential clients working in a particular industry (including understanding their financials), determine who their current counsel is, and assess what types of transactions they might be interested in.
2) Identify competitors to our existing clients so that we can do further analysis on those companies - are they moving into new technology or geographical areas, what are their financials like, etc.
3) Find potential investors for our clients based on previous investments that have been made within the industry.

Pros
- Extensive and granular tagging of industries
- Gathering transaction information even when some details are confidential
- Flexible screening tools
Cons
- Often the executive names are out of date and for contact information there is rarely a direct office phone number. I always end up using other sources to verify or add onto what information is present.
- Would love to see more detailed employee data and especially the structure of the executive and legal departments.
- High business value in determining whether a potential client has the financial backing to support work with a larger law firm
- Profiles of companies make it very easy for attorneys and the business development team to quickly know about a business before meeting with them, formally or informally
Big picture data is great and often used as a basis for further research. Generating lists of companies to investigate further is a key feature.
