Overall Satisfaction with Practical Law

Practical law is used as an educational tool. It contains a lot of resources to help guide users through the various areas of law: entertainment, labor and employment, real estate, etc. It contains articles, guides, templates, examples...and serves as a great how to guide if you happen to be starting out.

Most of the professors and students use it, and a lot of our transactional instruction relies on practical law guides and templates.

  • Resource guides
  • Practical tips from practitioners
  • Templates
  • Recent articles and news

  • Some resources are more detailed and on point than others
  • Competitors offer platforms that are more user-friendly
  • Sometimes navigating back to an old resource takes a bit more time than other platforms
  • Fantastic resources
  • Multiple examples
  • Document saving platform
  • Lexix Nexis and Bloomberg
They are pretty similar. I rely on practical law for certain practice areas more, and rely on the other platforms for other areas as they are more comprehensive and up to date. Lexis also is connected with Law360, and has a different set of resources, and has a strong shepherdizing tool that integrates well with what I need to do sometimes.
It is great for most, general high-level tasks. If you need something more specific in a particular area, however, there may be better guides elsewhere. Though the materials are a great starting point, it still requires additional review and modification to suit your needs. Not all things are on point, but it's a great starting point.
