A perfect OS alternative
Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
we are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux with our Aws environment. We are running them on production QA environment. RHEL helped in automation and scripting scope, we are able to run our application with more automation and scripts. Also, OS boot time is very less making downtime very less impactful compared to other high os we have used. Updates installation is also very fast compared to windows or other os.
Pros
- Repository maintenance for installation of software with latest package bundle
- Quick reboot and faster updates installation as compared to other OS
- Ease of scripting, managing services with automation and scripting along with cron job creations.
Cons
- Cli tools like nmcli firewalld, and subscription-manager can be easy more for new users
- Podman and containerisation is lacking documentation making difficult to operate
- Lack of support in EOL servers. Response from customer support is very never when comes to EOL servers for RHEL
- Operating system is very stable and time is also very good. Don’t reboot our crash by itself without any major issue.
- Troubleshooting and lock giving is very easy. Support. Person can detect any fault on a micro level easily.
- It is heavy heavier based OS size as compare to other OS like ubuntu and suse linux and Amazon Linux
Our AWS cloud in environment use as Amazon Linux and it’s very easy and free with Amazon. RHEL is subscription charge is highbased on charges as compared to Amazon Linux and other operating system like suse
